"How to Hear a Sentence" is a project that was initially performed as part of the Red Rover reading series in
The screen behind the performers provided a visual interpretation for vocabulary words in texts as they were read aloud.
If you CLICK HERE, you will be taken to the interface for the visuals, and you can click the “SENTENCE” button to generate text on the screen. If two words on the screen match, they will change color, and a new sentence combining the meanings of the original on-screen sentences will appear at the top of the screen. This new sentence is meant to connect the ideas that each speaker already has, and approximate an inferred idea from that source material.
This project was inspired by ideas and models in natural language processing, communications theory, and artificial intelligence.
Ira S. Murfin was my collaborating partner for this work.
