How to hear a sentence.

Can be considered a tool to help people in dialogue hear each others' sentences.

In this online iteration of the project, two readers' articles (written on the topics of language, talking, understanding...) serve as the source texts (the audio you hear playing). In each of these texts, the author has identified keywords, and the other author has provided sentences based on those words. As the keywords occur in the reading, they trigger the sentences to enter the screen. The sentences reflect the meanings that one writer holds of the other's vocabulary.

When words from these sentences match on screen, inferences appear that capture both the meaning of the keyword in the source text and the subjective meaning that the other author has brought to the table.

These inferences explore what happens to definitions and meanings when they are explored from different degrees of removal from their presented context. We find that communicative exchange can both generalize and create our sense of 'truth'.

The audio runs for about 18 minutes.
